John Knox Preschool (JKPS) is dedicated to making this first venture away from home a safe and happy experience for each child. We believe that we are in partnership with parents in helping each child to develop a love of school and a strong desire to learn.

OUR PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

As a play-based program, we strike a balance between free-play (allowing children to make choices) and teacher-directed learning opportunities, encouraging active involvement in first hand experiences. School is a place for living and learning age-appropriate developmental skills, guided by supportive teachers who work closely with parents.

Individualized learning is stressed in all areas. Developmentally appropriate activities are structured throughout the day, helping each child grow in areas of self-discipline and self-esteem. Many early childhood skills and benchmarks are a combination of chronological, academic, social, and physical development.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Karen joined the John Knox community in 2003 when her son joined the preschool. Over the next several years, she taught creative movement, 3Plus, music, and PreK before becoming the director in 2009. Ms. Karen always says, “Working with families to introduce children to the bigger world and prepare them for kindergarten is the best job I never meant to have!"
